Adam – A DVE Simulator

چکیده
During the past 25 years, a large amount of distributed virtual environment (DVE) systems has been proposed. Each was built to support a single scenario. This not only makes it impossible to rank these various DVEs, it also obscures the effect of each of the algorithms used in those systems. This makes it very hard to select the algorithms for a new scenario unless this scenario is a fairly exact copy of one of the previous sample-scenarios. To overcome this situation, we have created a modular simulator-based DVE testbed named Adam with the ability to plug in different scenarios as well as different algorithms. The testbed also contains a large set of measuring tools to compare and rank the effect of each algorithm and to allow finding optimal parameters for those algorithms. Our testbed currently supports two scenarios and several of the most common consistency algorithms found in the literature. We can compare the solutions on an objective scale and confirm that optimistic consistency typically outperforms loose consistency. Chapter

A Large Scale Distributed Virtual Environment Architecture
Virtual Environment (VE) is a simulation application that is widely used for the development of computer generated synthetic environments. A Distributed VE (DVE) allows many users to access a VE concurrently from different locations. Most current DVEs are still using simulator-centric architecture that views VE operations as a set of homogenous simulators, each aggregating data structure and al...
متن کاملSpalt-mediated dve repression is a critical regulatory motif and coordinates with Iroquois complex in Drosophila vein formation
Veins are longitudinal cuticular structures that maintain shape of the wing. Drosophila melanogaster has six longitudinal veins (L1-L6) and two cross veins. The Zn-finger transcription factors of Spalt-complex (Sal) are required for positioning of the L2 and L5, and the homeodomain transcription factors of Iroquois complex (Iro-C) are required for formation of the L3 and L5 veins. The homeodoma...
متن کاملSpatial and temporal requirement of Defective proventriculus activity during Drosophila midgut development
The Drosophila middle midgut cells derived from the endoderm develop into four distinct types of cell. Of these cells, copper cells have invaginated microvillar membranes on their apical surface, and they are involved in two distinct functions, i.e., copper absorption and acid secretion. The homeobox gene defective proventriculus (dve) is expressed in the midgut, and two transcripts, type A (∼4...
متن کاملIntegration of a helmet-mounted display for helicopter operations in degraded visual environment: a human factors perspective
Helicopter operations in degraded visual environment (DVE), especially brownout/whiteout landings often result in severe incidents and accidents in the civil and military field. In fact, landing in desert environment is the most dangerous aspect of flying in combat helicopters according to the USAF. The integration of a helmet-mounted display (HMD) can help the pilot to maintain situation aware...
متن کاملStatistical guarantee for object position synchronization in DVE
Communication cost and consistency are two major issues in DVE system. In this paper, we are going to explore a 1-dimension DVE system to exploit the idea of statistical guarantee object synchronization. We provide a mathematical analysis to show that the rate of message exchange is related to the consistency level required. Therefore, under this model, it is possible to derive a tradeoo betwee...
